Bhimashankar is located 125 km away from Pune in the ghat region of Sahyadri hills. As it’s located 3500 ft above sea level, it observes low temperature as well as heavy showers in monsoon season. Trek to Bhimashankar is known to be one of the best treks in Sahyadri ranges.

Bhimashankar is an ancient shrine situated in the Sahyadri Hills in the secret of Maharashtra. It is one of the well-known Jyotirlinga, amongst the twelve jyotirlingas all over India. It is also becoming one of the attractive and well known religious places in Maharashtra as well as in India. A path goes through the dark forest; after some time we have to cross dried water stream. (Active in Monsoon). In pre-monsoon season there are lots of fireflies are lightning up also in forest zone “Giant Squirrel” can appear throughout the year.
Our trek ends at Kondwal village, just 4 km from Bhimashankar village/Temple.

Facts about Fireflies
Fireflies are nocturnal insects. Despite the name, they aren’t flies, but rather a type of winged beetle. The light produced by fireflies is a chemical reaction used to signal members of the opposite sex. Each firefly species has its own distinctive flash patterns. Sometimes, they even blink in unison! Flash patterns range from continuous glows or single flashes to series of multi-pulsed flashes. The light produced by the firefly is the most efficient light ever made.
